Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery is designed to improve the appearance of sagginess in the breasts. This common aesthetic issue can be caused by a number of factors, including:

  • Weight loss
  • The natural effects of aging
  • Genetics
  • Recent pregnancy

A breast lift smooths out the skin of the breasts and lifts them to a higher position, giving them a “perkier,” more vibrant appearance. Breast lift can often be combined with breast augmentation for women who would like to address sagginess in addition to adding fullness and volume to the breasts.

The Breast Lift Procedure

Our New Jersey plastic surgeons have performed many breast lift procedures and they are committed to giving you results that not only look beautiful, but also natural. The procedure begins with an incision made around the areola (the dark-pigmented area of skin surrounding the nipple) down to the breast crease. Our plastic surgeons will then remove excess skin, tighten the remainder, and relocate the nipples to a higher position. Ultimately, the goal is to give your breasts a much smoother appearance, free from excess skin that causes them to take on a “sagging” aesthetic.

Breast lift surgery usually takes no more than two hours, and can be completed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.

Breast Lift Recovery

Patients can expect some degree of swelling and bruising after breast lift surgery, but this should fade as the breasts continue to heal during recovery. Pain and discomfort can be controlled with medication. Normal daily activities can often be resumed after about one week; however, we typically advise patients to avoid strenuous activities for the first few weeks after a breast lift procedure. There will be some scarring after surgery, but this should fade with time. Our plastic surgeons are highly skilled with making any residual scarring as light as possible.
