Breast augmentation can help women achieve a fuller, more symmetrical bustline with larger breasts and a contoured aesthetic more closely aligned with their personal goals. Breast implants can provide a more youthful, sensual appearance while making a woman’s profile more proportionate to her overall body frame. A breast augmentation can also compensate for reduced breast mass after pregnancy or surgery, to correct a congenital breast defect, or in breast reconstruction procedures following a mastectomy or injury.
Breast augmentation with breast implants can help recontour and add volume to your bustline, making your breasts more proportionate to your body frame with natural-looking, beautiful results. Breast implants, both saline and silicone, have been proven to be safe and effective choices for cosmetic aesthetic enhancement, creating a more youthful, fuller appearance.
Each procedure at Art Plastic Surgery is customized for every patient to provide the best possible outcome for each individual treatment plan. During the consultation process, Our New Jersey plastic surgeons will cover a variety of issues ranging from size, type of implant, and shape, as well as expectations for before, during, and after the breast augmentation surgery.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone implants are FDA-approved for use in breast augmentation patients who are over 22 years of age. Composed of a silicone outer shell and filled with thick silicone gel, this type of implant is known for its natural appearance and feel. With silicone implants, there is a smaller chance for rippling and deflation, and they are often more beneficial for women who are exceptionally thin or who are undergoing breast reconstruction.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline implants are approved by the FDA for use in women over 18. They are made of a silicone outer shell and filled with a saltwater solution that is easily absorbed by the body in the case of a ruptured implant. Smaller incisions are used with saline implants, as they are filled after placement, resulting in less visible scarring.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
Breast implants can be placed beneath the chest muscle or directly beneath the breast tissue. Dr. Cozzone and Dr. Zapiach will discuss the placement of the implants during the consultation process to determine which option is best suited for each patient.
There are a variety of techniques used when performing breast augmentation, typically depending on where the incisions are made:
Once the incision is made, the breast tissue is lifted and implant is placed in the desired area. Then, the incisions are closed and the procedure is completed.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Patients can expect some pain and discomfort after breast surgery, but this can be managed with medication. Some bruising, swelling, and numb sensations will likely affect the breasts and nipples within the first few weeks following the procedure. Stitches are typically removed within the first 10 days following the surgery, and patients are usually able to return to their daily routines within a few days to a week.
Mammograms are typically continued post-surgery to ensure successful placement and continue healing following the breast augmentation procedure during recovery.
